Executive Roundtable

Participants of the 2018 Global Meat Industry Executive Roundtable – M50 included four government agencies, and over 80 executives representing 60 global organizations from 10 countries; all leading enterprises along the whole meat value chain – from meat processing, sanitation, machinery, packaging, cold chain, solution providers, retail, importers and exporters. The format was expanded from previous years U.S.-China to include international partners.

Purpose/Goals

  • Engage with top meat industry peers on market trends and discuss issues and opportunities for collaboration. 
  • Build on previous Executive Roundtables by strengthening commercial and technical relationships. Outcomes will provide direct feedback to upcoming programs that AFP and CMA are partnering on in 2018-2019.
  • Enhance cooperation among international, Chinese companies, and NGO/government stakeholders to ensure food safety, security and sustainability
  • Gain broader input on key areas of cooperation to advance mutual benefits for global supply chain

Highlights

  • Raised awareness of the core issues in the global meat industry chain, including supply chain and value chain re-construction
  • Identified gaps that still exist in China, despite growth in the industry
    • Re: Technical expertise, production efficiency, quality assurance, food safety, standards and norms, environmental protection, resource utilization etc.
    • Identified key areas for cooperation among industries, and industry to government
  • Reinforced importance of maintaining U.S.-China relationship in technical collaboration, and seeking to elevate partnership among different countries
